A Savior Is Born
resource type: info
12.05.2010
Week 1 - To Bring Hope
Luke 1:15-56 - We’ll take a look at how Jesus is the HOPE of the World  - God was intentional in every detail of his plan to bring his son into the world. Through Mary, an everlasting hope would come to the nations.  What hope does the birth of Christ bring into your life?  Does it help you to know that the God of the universe cared enough for you to send His own Son through this humble event to provide a means of salvation and entering into a relationship with Him?  This gives me HOPE!

Week 2 - To Bring Peace
Ruth's Story & John 14:26-28 - Through the little town of Bethlehem, the birth of our Savior would become a reality and be our prince of peace.  Look at the city that was promised to yield the Messiah!  Let’s look at what is significant about seemingly insignificant people and events.  God wants to redeem us and give us “abundant” life – not just mediocre but abundance!  And it comes with peace – not the peace that the world gives but only peace that a relationship with Jesus Christ can give – internal, abundant, trusting peace.

12.19.2010
Week 3 - To Bring Love
Luke 2:8-20 - Through shepherds, God would exalt the humble and show us that He is the sovereign shepherd of love.  Isaiah 40 gives us a great picture of “who” God is (including the Shepherd that cares for His flock).  Look this over and see how amazing God is that then we’ll look at the shepherds that received the message first and see that God used some of the most humble surroundings to make His first announcement.  In John 10:14-18 we see Jesus taking the title of Good Shepherd.  Look at the extent of a shepherds love for His sheep!  Now, because of Jesus gentleness and love in our life, we should WANT to follow along with Him!

Week 4 - To Bring Joy
Luke 2:8-20 - Through angels, God would send good tidings of great joy that would come to all people, everywhere. Why was the angels message in Luke 2:10 “good news”?  These people have been waiting for over 400 years for a Messiah – and now the good news is out – He is coming and He is here!  Look at Luke 2:14 and compare it to Romans 5:1 – the promised peace is a reality through the Son of God, Jesus Christ.  The message of the angels came true as predicted through Jesus.  What joy is there in your life knowing that God keeps His promises?

Special Guest Speaker
09.19.2010
After nineteen years of full-time ministry in the Bible Institute and Theological Seminary as a professor and General Director, seeing many blessings from the Lord of the harvest, God led me to develop a new ministry aimed at developing the character of African leaders (leaders of families, church leaders, professional and government leaders) through sound biblical principles. The new ministry of leadership training, based on ethical behavior and a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ, will be done through a Non Governmental Organization called the “International Center for the Development of Ethical Leadership” (CIDEL).
This message is a Launch of the Commit Series for the Fall and we are going to revisit the Six Steps to a New Me from the beginning of the year.

Week1 - To Flee
09.26.2010
We grow up but we still hang on to some of the desires and habits of our youth.  Some of them are wrong and yet we don't admit it or we justify it through some unbiblical standards.  How do we recognize the "Evil desires" of our youth and then begin to "FLEE" them or be FREE of them?  Find out how in this week's message.

Week2 - To Pursue Righteousness
10.03.2010
Now that we are in the mode of looking at our own evil desires of our youth and committed to flee them - how do we overcome those things which pull at us still?  We have to replace the old desires with something new.  So let's now begin looking at what we should pursue - first up: RIGHTEOUSNESS.  Let's see what it means to PURSUE righteousness and how that looks in our lives.

Week3 - To Pursue Faith
10.10.2010
The second step of pursuit is to pursue "FAITH".  With this word is the understanding of "faithfulness" or loyalty or commitment.  For us to pursue faithfulness means to "commit together to be committed!"  We become more faithful as our faith deepens and often our faith deepens when we struggle or are challenged.  We build strength by working out and overcoming the hard things.  This involves sticking with it!

Week4 - To Pursue Love
10.17.2010

Week5 - To Pursue Peace
10.24.2010
Commit together to pursue peace alongside those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.  To be a peacemaker means we have to be careful what we talk about, who we talk about and when we talk about things.  The goal that Jesus set was to live in harmonious relationships together. What does the Word of God say about this if we don't agree!

Do Hard Things - See God's Blessing
resource type: info
08.15.2010
Alex and Brett Harris wrote a book called "Do Hard Things" with teens in mind.  Yet the same principles that are directed toward teens are the same principles that every believer in Jesus Christ must do to see God's blessing - this life is not to be a life of mediocrity nor are God's expectations for us easy to accomplish BUT we are not intended to accomplish them on our own! We have the power of the Spirit in us to give us direction, strength and power!

Let's Reclaim Our Family
resource type: info
The Secure Wife
01.24.2010
Ephesians 5:21-6:4 - There is power in living out the role of a submissive wife. We will compare the curse of Genesis 3 to the power of Prov 31 as we explain the phrase "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord". Lining yourself up under someone else's leadership requires strength of character.

The Leading Husband
01.31.2010
Ephesians 5:21-6:4 - In reclaiming our families it means that everyone plays a role and that they play that role to the best they can. Wives want a husband that leads and when men don't receive that mantle of leadership and wear it right conflict arises.  We'll see that Satan lies and men believe it - we are good enough within the power of God to lead and love our wife and kids like Christ leads and loves His bride.

The Honoring Children
02.07.2010
Ephesians 5:21-6:4 - Reclaiming our families requires us to properly teach our kids to honor and obey.  The ONE command specifically for kids is to OBEY your parents.  We will talk about what this means practically and how parents can teach it.  Then let's step up and start doing!.

In Matthew 5, Jesus starts his sermon on the mount with a list of "beatitudes" or "principles to check our attitudes".  He includes this idea of the "poor in spirit" as those who are broken over their sin before God and seeking His will in their lives. Living a broken life does not mean always having a sad face or a downcast spirit. There are three ideas behind living out a broken and humbled life before God. First, that we will destroy our self-will and choose to obey immediately as God
calls.  Second, that we will live dependent on Him and stop being so self
reliant. And third, that we would have hearts with a teachable spirit when God wants to plant new seeds of truth, we will be ready to receive them and watch them grow deeply into our lives. James 4:6-10 gives us some insight into this idea of brokenness - so does Psalm 51.

05.02.2010
What does it mean to have a passion for God?  Matthew 22:37-40 says to love the Lord with all that I have.  It reminds me that I should give my heart, soul mind and strength to learning to love God.  I believe I should pray for a love for God to thrive in my heart.  How does this look?  Isaiah 6:1-8 shows us the glory of God and what it does to our lives.  Revelation 4 shows us a picture of heaven that allows us to see that
for which we hope.  When we allow ourselves to stay in this broken place then we begin to develop a dependence upon, a passion for and a relationship with the God of the universe.  Psalms 42:1-2 says, "As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. {2} My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go
and meet with God?" God wants us to have a thirst for Him and His presence that can only be satisfied as we spend time with Him.  Our prayers are like a fragrant aroma and incense that brings joy to the heart of the Lord.  When we enter into prayer with God we are bringing joy to his heart. Let's build an intense passionate thirst for God together!

05.09.2010
There are five direct commands in Scripture regarding our relationship to the Holy Spirit.  Eph. 6:18 and Jude 20 speak about praying in the Spirit; we are to walk by the Spirit in Gal. 5:16; we are to be filled with the Spirit in Eph. 5:18; we should not quench the Spirit in 1 Thess. 5:19 and are commanded to not grieve the Spirit in Eph. 4:30.  As we commit to walking by the Spirit and being filled with the Spirit we'll look at what these things look like in our daily lives. How does one live a Spirit-filled life with all of the frustrations of life around each day.  We first need to understand how the Spirit works in us and then we can begin to see our role in living in a "filled" manner.  It is important to remember that the Holy Spirit is with every believer and is given for several purposes.
Have you ever felt prompted to do something and then did not do it?  You may have "quenched" the Spirit's prompting in your life.  Have you done something that you "knew" while you made the decision to do it that it was a mistake? Again, ignoring the Spirit.  We must make a conscious choice each day to live a Spirit-filled life.  Part of living a Spirit-filled life means watching the fruit of the Spirit develop in our lives and we can't move on until we learn to love each other like God loves his people.

05.16.2010
When we begin to see things the way God sees things THEN we begin to see people through the lenses that God uses.  Lost OR found?  Heaven OR Hell? Seeing people through this lens and even reading about the final destination of the lost will make a huge impact on how we approach sharing our faith and just caring about who people are and where they will spend eternity.  Revelation 20 would be a great start to this and even looking at the celebration that occurs in Luke 15 when lost things are found. Once we commit to living a Spirit-filled life, we will begin to see a love for people develop in our spirit.  Once this happens it will begin to extend into loving not only our brothers and sisters in Christ but those who are lost. Committing to the lost means truly being concerned about their destiny and this concern will motivate us to action. When I lose my wallet because I have placed it somewhere out of the norm, I intently search everywhere until I find it.  I rack my memory for where it could
be and then I make every effort to find it.  When I do, I am overjoyed.  In the same way when a lost sinner comes to repentance in Christ, the angels rejoice in heaven for this new life!  How do we celebrate?  How do we care?

Week 1 - The Life of David (an overview)
05.23.2010
I Samuel & I Chronicles
The telling of the large picture story of the life of David and seeing that to get from Mountain Top to Mountain Top he had to travel through a lot of valleys.  Psalm 23 says that even though we walk through the valley of death we should fear no evil – because God is with us.

Week 2 - What is a Mountain Without a Valley
05.30.2010
I Samuel 16
In this first stage of David’s public life he is actually called from the fields to be anointed king.    This is very interesting.  He is the last and youngest of Jesse’s sons and yet he is the one anointed king.  That has to give you a rush and a sense of pride?  But, nothing really comes of it initially. God’s promises happen in His timing.  It is our job to trust Him with the promise and then to obey Him fully with what we know we are supposed to do.  Live in the moment that God has given and trust Him to fulfill His will in you.

Week 3 - From Shepherd Again To Hero!
06.06.2010
I Samuel 17
We rejoin the scene as David is being sent to the battle lines, as a servant and youngest brother, to deliver goods to his warrior brothers.  In the coming hours he is propelled from lowly shepherd and delivery boy to mighty warrior who killed the champion of the other army.
He is back on a mountain top and being hailed as a hero!  What NEXT?

Week 4 - From Commander To Cave Dweller
06.13.2010
I Samuel 18-21
In this section of Mountain Top to Valley Drop we see David have it all land lose it all.
Sometimes God has to strip everything away for us to turn to Him and repent and respond to Him.  David had it all and God caused David to lose it all.  WHY? David was not yet the man that God needed for the next king.  There was still some molding to take place.

Week 5 - From Riff-Raff To Royalty
06.20.2010
I Samuel 22
During these ups and downs we see David's integrity, passion for God and a brokenness for the anointed one of God - David's enemy and king, Saul. Sometimes God chooses some strange training camps for His people.

Week 7 - Family Issues - Legacy of a great leader...a son, a dad, & 2 kings
07.11.2010
II Samuel 13-15
In an unusual turn of events - Absalom, David's own son, is banished from his presence and then sets himself up as the new king. David's reaction to this is unheard of in the world today - He does not fight for his rights but he does all that he can to preserve peace in his nation - even to his own embarrassment. What would you do?

Week 8: The Last Words of David!
07.18.2010
I Chronicles 29
In this last message on David's life - he goes out with a huge celebration of accomplishing something great for God. David is amazingly generous and passes on that generosity to set the pace for the giving to the Lord's Temple building. What does it mean to "delight " in the Lord? How did David handle a "no" from God?

Philemon - Living It Out!
resource type: info
11.07.2010
Week 1 - Refreshing The Saints
Philemon 1-7 - Philemon was a man in Colossea that was living out 2 Tim. 2:22 - He was righteous, faithful, loving and a peacemaker.  In fact, Paul write this little letter to him to praise him for all of these things and more.  Philemon truly found ways to refresh the saints in their walk and also found that part of the formula was sharing his faith.

11.14.2010
Week 2 - A Reconditioned Slave
Philemon 8-16 - Paul turns his attention to Onesimus, the runaway slave, and describes the transformation that takes place as this man's life was changed because of his relationship with Jesus.  Before - he was useless - but now - he has become useful.  A play on words - Onesimus means "useful".

11.21.2010
Week 3 - Reproducing Success
Philemon - Philemon was challenged by Paul to remember what Paul had done in his presence and to do likewise.  Paul asked Philemon to restore Onesimus, the runaway slave, to service and to forgive him.  Paul basically says, you have seen me live it out - now I want you to live it out, too.

         11.28.2010
Week 4 - Thanksgiving In Our Lives
Philemon - This service is a chance to reflect on how we have chosen to "Pay it Forward" or what we are doing to "Reproduce Success" as mentioned in Philemon.
